Pearlyn Lii (b. Hong Kong) is an interdisciplinary artist and designer based across New York and Los Angeles.
Through time-based media, Lii constructs speculative mythos to render alternative worlds as a subversive ritual in exploration of heterogeneous futures. With themes of ancestral memory, refusal of obedience, erosion of filial piety, and personhood, she generates worlds rooted in fictional cosmologies to expose the fragility of false systems of techno-optimism often entangled in invisible power structures. Her work manifests through video game animation, augmented reality, and embodied performances.
Lii is an alumna of NEW INC, a cohort of artists supported by The New Museum, and is a selectee of the Art+Code track in partnership with Rhizome. There, she founded nonstudio, an art and design practice that investigates mythologies through transmedia. Her work has been presented at New York Live Arts, JO-HS, MoMA, MAXMachina, The New York Times, Google, and covered by Dezeen, Vogue Italia, Wallpaper*, Art in America, Killscreen, The New River, and Casa BRUTUS. Previously, she has worked with the Guggenheim Bilbao, Whitewall Magazine, and Maison Kitsuné.
In 2020, Foundation invited her to be one of the first 24 artists to launch the platform. In 2023, she became a founding artist at Gemma, a digital platform uplifting female-identifying new media work founded by Lindsay Howard and Eileen Isagon Skyers.
She is a proud alumna of ArtCenter College of Design, where she earned a degree in Graphic Design with distinction.
